Dear School Law Section Members:
Welcome to the School Law Section of the State Bar of Texas. I am honored to assume the office of Chair of the Section and am grateful for the opportunity to serve its members. This website is designed to disseminate information and resources that may be useful to the School Law practitioner. It also contains information about the School Law Section, its officers and upcoming events, and CLE programs.
For those of you who are not already familiar with the Section, the collegiality and mutual respect between members of the Section is unmatched by any other practice area in the State Bar. We are proud to serve the schools, administrators, educators, parents, and most importantly, the children of the State of Texas by the work that we do. Although we represent a vast array of entities and clients in our everyday practice, we are united in our desire to make a positive contribution to our future by supporting and nurturing the education of those children.
The School Law Section of the State Bar of Texas is dedicated to providing superior legal education and networking opportunities for those who practice in School Law. To that end, the Section provides the annual Section Retreat and helps plan the University of Texas School Law Conference. We hope that you will take advantage of these programs. School Law is a broad and diverse practice, and these programs present a valuable opportunity to benefit from the expertise of those who know it best.
The UT School Law Conference will be held February 22 and 23, 2018 at the AT&T Conference Center in Austin. This substantive program provides an in-depth analysis of hot topics and legal issues that are of concern to the School Law attorney and education policy makers. This year the 2018 School Law Section Retreat will be held at the Hyatt Hill Country Resort on July 26-28, 2018. Please check back here as these dates approach for more information.
The School Law Section also produces a newsletter. If you have ideas for future articles or information to present to the Section, please contact either of the co-editors, Leticia McGowan or Paige Williams. Ms. McGowan has volunteered her time to serve as co-editor of the newsletter for many years, and we can’t thank her enough for her efforts.
Thank you again for the opportunity to serve as Section Chair for this year. We are dedicated to continuing the professionalism and congeniality that has become a defining characteristic of the Section. If you are interested in taking a more active role in the Section, contact me. Our commitment to professional and personal relationships, and to mentor each other will ensure the continued success of the Section.
